If you are interested in Tarot cards or want to purchase a Tarot deck, this list of 13 best Tarot decks for beginners is for you. I made this list of beginner-friendly Tarot decks because when long time ago, I was looking for the perfect Tarot deck it was hard to find any recommendations and I wish there was a post like this.
The times definitely changed, and now there are way more decks than 10 years ago, so it might get hard to choose a deck that would fit you the best.
If I were a beginner, I wouldn’t choose the classic RWS Tarot deck (RWS stands for Rider, Waite, Smith – creators of the deck) and would probably go for a deck that is more colorful, has plenty of details, represents modern times, or is a part of my life that is important to me, for example, shadow work.
Don’t get me wrong, the classic deck is indeed the ultimate deck and it’s great to learn more about it, the history of the deck, and those who are behind it. I, especially recommend learning the story of Pamela Colman Smith. But in my humble opinion, the issue is that it’s a bit outdated and I know that a lot of people, including myself, don’t feel represented by this deck or inspired to practice Tarot with the RWS deck.
So if you’re interested in the more modern and inclusive decks, check out the list below. I really hope, you will find a deck you love.
I don’t have all the decks on the list but those that I don’t have are on my “to-buy list“.

6| Tarot of the Golden Wheel. This deck was inspired by the Russian fairytales and as someone who grew up reading and listening to these fairytales, this is a very special deck to me. Bright colors, beautiful illustrations, and great stories behind each card – this deck is a true inspiration. If you’re interested in learning more about Slavic fairytales and mythology, I would definitely recommend this deck.

7| Vice Versa. OK, I have to admit this deck may be a little hard but it’s still a very unique deck. This deck consists of two-sided cards and when you read it, you will know right away what card you are picking. It’s up to you if you want to read what is in front of you or the other side of the card. But I think this deck is good for beginners because it has detailed illustrations, a lot of symbolism, and a unique approach. You can see a whole picture with this deck and create a story.
