I just turned 30 at the very end of the last year and of course, when an important date approaches, we tend to reflect on ourselves and our life. From a lot of shadow work and self-reflection, I made a list of 21 things I would tell my younger self and I would love to share them with you.
I have a lot of regrets and mistakes that I made but I also learned a lot from these experiences and plan to leave these regrets in my twenties and move on.
If you are young, I would suggest living your life as authentically as possible and putting yourself first.
Don’t live your life for others, live it for yourself.
21 things I would tell my younger self
1| Don’t waste time on things and people that are not important or drain your energy. Life does have ups and downs but move on quickly from downs so that you can enjoy your life.
2| Start learning self-care and self-love now. Respect and appreciate yourself. You’re unique and beautiful as you are.
3| Learn about finance, money, and budgeting.
4| Express yourself creatively. Don’t be scared. Work on your talents! Even if you are not going to be a big superstar, a famous writer, or an artist, keep creating!
5| Life is full of ups, and downs, and neutrals. The pain will go away. What’s important is your approach toward life. I mentioned moving on quickly but it’s also crucial to give yourself time to heal and relax when you go through rough times. Keep your head high and know that you will go through whatever life throws at you because you’re strong.
6| Don’t suffer because someone doesn’t like you, focus on yourself, learn new things. Don’t waste your time on someone who clearly doesn’t deserve it.
7| Start taking care of your health now. Eat well, and exercise. You will not regret it.
8| Be more grounded and down to earth. Appreciate small things in life.
9| Don’t listen to people who say that something is not possible or people who are not where you want to be in life. Take risks, go for it! Go after things you want and like. Of course, stay realistic. However, this is your life and others cannot and should not decide for you.
10| Learn from your mistakes, let yourself fall, but then get up and do it again.
11| Don’t give up and believe in yourself! You should be your number one cheerleader and while the goals are important, don’t forget to enjoy the process.
12| Plant seeds now, you will get rewarded later.
13| Never stop learning. It is amazing that the more we learn the little we know. The world is so big and I think constantly learning is amazing for our thinking, analytical skills, and brain in general.
14| Read more books.
15| Explore more! Go on small adventures in your own town or city, become a tourist, and explore local places.
16| Stand your ground and learn boundaries. Don’t let people manipulate you and don’t be a people pleaser. It’s important to say yes to new things, adventures, and places but learning to say NO to the things that don’t feel right is crucial.
17| Experiment with your style and makeup more. If not now, when?
18| Learn new languages. At least, one more. It’s extremely rewarding because when you know another language you can learn about the culture or a country and its people from a different point of view
19| Don’t overthink, accept yourself and your situation as they are.
20| Be grateful for what you have and if there is something you don’t like have a daily plan to change or improve it.
21| Be present as much as possible. Time flies by quickly so try to be in the moment.
I hope you enjoyed this post and the things I would tell my younger self. What things would you tell your younger self?
